Vintage Inspired Outfit: Wannabe Sweater Girl

I adore the sweater girl look. Its just so perky. I think a great casual vintage inspired look is the sweater and cropped trousers or pencil skirt, especially in spring as the weather is changing. Marilyn Monroe was one of the sweater queens of the 1950s.

So attempting to take a lead from the history style books I decided to wear a sweater and pencil skirt combo for a wander around town on a spring day.

A good friend of mine has this same pencil skirt (and has done for years) and I always though it was a great skirt; a sort of universal colour with a small print that preventing it being just a dull 'black pencil skirt'. You can imaging how pleased I was when I found it in a charity shop in Hove for £2! In my size! YEEEEES!

The sweater was from eBay and had the labels cut out so I have no idea when its from, but I love it. I think it is a perfect colour and I adore the little collar details, its so universal, I would definitely recommend this sort of pinky/peach sweater to anyone crafting a vintage style capsule wardrobe.

The only problem is, that since putting on a bit of weight my bust size has changed. I dare not admit either that I didn't get myself measured for ages and I was somehow convinced that my bust had not changed. Oh how wrong I was, by two cup sizes. So naturally my vintage inspired underwear is not really right anymore meaning that I was not able to achieve the perfect sweater girl look, but its not far off. I am now hunting for the perfect slightly larger vintage styled bra.

I've shown this satchel before on Fancy Dresscapades, but I think that the colour of the flowers goes with this outfit perfectly.

The hair in these pictures is me still getting to grips with the permed hair. But I was pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I still haven't quite got the hang of pin placement, especially on the back of my head but I felt that I didn't do a half bad job this time around. Hopefully if I keep practising I will be able to share more snazzy hair dos, and maybe one day actually share a tutorial or two!

Vintage Outfit: Sunny Scarborough and a Tropical Vintage Skirt

Boy have I been enjoying the sunny weather! I'm not sure how long it will last, but being the sceptical Brit I am determined to enjoy every moment I can get until the summer rain inevitably sets in (usually during the first week of the summer holidays).

On a lovely sunny day I decided to go for a walk in the park with Mr. Fancy in his hometown of Scarborough. This particular park was Peasholm, a lovely park near the beach with a large lake and a mixed 'Asian Fusion' (to quote Glee) theme.

Around the lake there are little walks and streams with trees, squirrels and sculptures of large mushrooms. The lake itself was covered in people riding in dragon shaped peddle boats (a nice alternative to the usual swan) and in the centre there is a large island with waterfalls, bridges and small walled garden and pagoda. The parks feel was eccentric at best, but I love eccentric and eclectic so I throughly enjoyed myself!

As for my outfit I wore a lovely tropical print black skirt with greens and yellow flowers on it, it is vintage and from eBay so was only £7 its really light and floaty which makes it perfect for a summer day.The blouse is from Next and I've had it for about 6 years but it is one of the few blouses that doesn't pop open at the buttons so I'm very reluctant to ever let it go! Lastly I wore some leopard print ballet pumps from Clarks. They weren't cheap at £34.99, but they are the first pair of ballerinas I've ever been able to wear as I have stupidly narrow feet so I was willing to give them a go.

Vintage Outfit: Red Tartan and a New Hat

At the moment I have a little bit of an obsession with tartan. When I get a few spare moments I'm hoping to make a plaid dress, but before that I have satisfied my plaid lust with a couple of skirts. The first is is one I mentioned here.

The second one is this lovely bright red one. It is a Viyella wool pleated midi skirt, c.1990, that I bought online. It is a little but long but it keeps me nice and warm.

The coat I am wearing on this picture is one I have worn a lot this winter and features in a few previous posts.

This hat is a small American Style hat made of straw in a sort of coral and red colour. It's a very cute little day hat which is probably not best suited to sit upon my nest of hair but oh well! I think it should have sat a little further forward but I need to experiment with it.

Recently I've been playing with the VA Hollywood costume app so I'll have a post on that soon!
