Outfit of the day: A Bargain Charity-Shop Tea Dress and a Bit of Game of Thrones Hair

The other weekend I went to stay for a long weekend with my husband in Scarborough (yeah... we still don't live together, can I get a collective awwwwww?) and we managed to finally steal away a bit of time together.

What that also meant was that I had a bit of time to explore some unfamiliar charity shops (always an exciting opportunity). One thing I found was this lovely little dress - I got it from the British Heart Foundation for £7.99 and it is a retro tea dress from M&S. Its tough to date, but I think early naughties from the look of the labels  It is a really nice drapey fabric and has a cute floral ditsy print which is always a favourite of mine. Typically I have a lot of trouble with shirt buttons fitting but I was really pleased to find that the the top of this dress was quite roomy and the final touch of a little belt to take in the waist and its fit pretty much perfectly.

Unfortunately the weather was pretty foul and we ended up trapped in the house for most of Sunday. What we did get time for was a bit of catch up on Game of Thrones a TV show I am still amazed that I like... Anywho, in a bit of a rush I plaited my hair in an attempt at a Daenerys Targaryen inspired do. I was pretty messy and I'd really like to have another go at a neater more elaborate style, I just need a bit more time!

What do you think?

On Monday I travelled home via York rather early in the morning and found that it was really empty and quite snowy, it was so pretty!!

Thats it for now! I hope everyone else is holding up okay in this awful weather.

Outfit Finds: Earmuffs and Gloves

I Love earmuffs!

As simple as that - I really like them. They keep your ears warm, they look cute and they can fit snugly around an up do. The only way they could get any better is if they had headphones in them too.

Any who, I was looking for a new pair to wear this winter and ended up in Accessorize. They have an excellent selection of colours and 'styles' (I use styles very loosely by the way, there is only so much variation you can have in a headband with ear warmers) if they are a little bit expensive at £16. But they do make a nice winter treat.

I decided on some black ones with knitted flowers on them. If I'm honest I was persuaded by the fact they looked a little like a retro game sprite, but hey, that's because I'm a nerd! I also bought some matching gloves with the same print.

Now, I don't have a good track record with accessorise gloves, they usually end up unravelling on me... But well see how I get on with these.

Vintage Events: Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair - Durham

Hi folks!

So last Saturday (the 28th) I visited Judy's Vintage Fair in Durham Students Union. Now I'm not sure how long Judy has run an event in Durham, I'm just pleased that it's been long enough that the event seems to be in the swing of things by the time that I moved to the North East.

I attended one of the sister events at Brighton and while the Durham event is smaller there is no shortage of bargains to be found. (Judy has events in lots of cities - you can find a list here - scroll down)

In Durham, much like in the rest of the UK it has been raining, so I chose to wear my trusty teal raincoat, long boots (I didn't want to ruin a nice pair os shoes on the muddy lane) and a trusty navy tea dress from Monsoon.

The fair, while taking up a fairly small area in the basement of the Union, was packed with sellers and clothes rails filled with goodies. Prices varied a lot depending on age style and colour but the most expensive thing I looked at was around £65 - I dare say they were more expensive things, I probably just missed them. But there were also rails for £10 dresses and id say the average price was around £20-30.

I didn't spend much time looking at the scattered items of lingerie, or any shoes or jewellery but there was a fair selection for those interested. There were even cupcakes available for £1.50 from Cakes and all things nice.

I'd say for the £2 entry fee, or £1 if you're a student, there was lots of choice and it would be easy to spend a hour or more rummaging. Stall owners were friendly and helpful and there were a fairly good selection of sizes not just the tiny tiny items you find at a lot of vintage fairs.

So what did I get?

Well I had a fairly good day of thrifting, I bought a blue dress from the fair I believe it is probably from the 1970s but I simply loved the colour! I also bought a mushroom polka dot day dress that had all of its labels removed so I have no idea where it is from, it is made of a thick cotton fabric and some very light padding at the shoulders.

I also went on a little bit of a charity shop hunt and managed to find a lovely teal coast skirt and red polka dot blouse. Last but not least, and this is cheating a bit, is a blue and white summer dress from monsoon. Technically my mum bought this dress but she said we could share it which is convenient given that we are the same size - its just to pretty not to share!

Anywho, that's it for now, bye for now!
